I would like to take time to
acknowledge and thank the people who were
instrumental in teaching and instilling in me a love for the martial arts.
Harry Acklin & Angi Uezu for starting me on the correct path,
and their time and effort spent with me.
My sempais in Isshinryu who took me under their wings, guiding and sharing
their knowledge and time, at a most crucial period in my training. Jim
La Rocco, Pat Cummerford, Mike Slimen, Kenny Unger and
Jhoon Kim.
Mr. Robert Dalglish of Canada, who took a special interest in me and
gave me an appreciation for the beauty in the intricacies of kata.
Mr. IL Joo Kim who was instrumental in teaching me the finer points of
karate and that your training extends far beyond the dojo.
To my friend and brother Bob Schultz who shared his knowledge
unselfishly in the Bando system and Bak Mei White Eyebrow Kung Fu. Also Dr.
Myaung Gyi, founder of the American Bando Association, for welcoming me as a
brother.
To Tarzan Young of Bak Mei White Eyebrow Kung Fu for sharing some of
his knowledge and great cooking.
A special thanks and note of appreciation to my life time friend George
Anderson. Whose constant influence and encouragement kept me involved
in training, by making advanced knowledge on technical and philosophical aspects
of karate, jujitsu, kobudo and judo available to me at times when it would have
been easy for me to drop by the wayside. Mr. Anderson pulled me by the
hand, grabbed me by the arm and sometimes carried me on his back to keep me
involved. And for this I am eternally grateful. Uncle George has,
by the strength of his own personality, great intellect and sheer determination
reached the pinnacle of success in many aspects of the martial arts. And
meeting him by chance when I was a white belt was truly a life altering
experience.
To my friends and teachers in Brazilian Jujitsu, Bob Doris, AJ
Comparetto, Sensei Joe Rose (my workout partner) and Sensei Danita Clarke of the Muso Bugei Kai of St.
Petersburg, Florida, who rekindled a fire in me after major spine and knee
surgery that almost ended my martial arts career, thank you for your
encouragement and friendship.
Lastly to my lifetime friends and family of students, who gave me a
reason to learn more and be the best I could for them, my heartfelt thanks and
appreciation.
Special thanks to my wife Gail, whose technical
expertise and support for my efforts in martial arts have
made this website possible.
Respectfully,
Larry A. Lunn (lifetime martial arts
student)
